Interactive Wooden Structure for “Blind Drawing”
Collaboration with artist Fritz Welch
Client: Drawing Center

Blind Meditation
A collaboration with the visual artist Fritz Welch for a drawing event organized by the Drawing Center and held at the World Financial Center in New York City. Welch envisioned a drawing experience in which one would make drawings from memory while blindfolded. The action needed a structure to facilitate the drawing as well as the presentation, while being transportable and friendly to the public. MG Studio devised a foldable panel system that provides multiple height desks obscured from view by a vertical presentation surface. Once a drawing is completed volunteers paste the paper to the panels ultimately transforming the entire structure into a finished drawing.

The entire structure had to be assembled, used and disassembled in one day. Each bay is a separate folding unit that enabled it to be folded and stacked with the whole structure fitting inside a panel van for transport. Four people were able to set it up in under two hours.

The middle wall had slotted gaps to store the paper and pens.
