Air Operations Water Tower

A commission by the Los Angeles Fire Department to create two sculptures for their Air Operations facility at Van Nuys Airport. The facility houses LAFD helicopters responsible for fire fighting in the wilderness urban interface as well as air ambulance, search and rescue and high-rise fire fighting.

At the gate to the airport we created a steel tower evocative of fluid water being used at extreme pressures. Folded steel fins are randomly installed and gradually enlarged up a series of steel rings to create a 32 feet tall beacon to mark the importance of the facility among the anonymous warehouses surrounding the airport.

Specs
Size: 32' tall x10' diameter
Material: powder-coated steel
