We were asked by Los Angeles World Airport to propose a temporary installation for a neglected courtyard space between terminals 1 and 2 at LAX. The request was to transform the leftover gap between terminals into an inviting public space. So we asked ourselves why is basic comfort in air travel considered an upgrade or luxury. Why can’t some gesture be made to give the average traveler delight. Well given that the space was outside arrivals we decided to create a public waiting lounge but scaled up to make our point. Oversize loungers tightly grouped into reclining landscapes are scattered around the courtyard. The multicolored straps are made from airline seat belts. Hopefully the wait for one’s ride can be seen as a moment to relax as opposed to just one more delay.
